Postcard from Salar de Uyuni

Wherever you have friends that’s your country, and wherever you receive love, that’s your home.

It’s been over a few months since returning from my trip to Bolivia, but everything I saw in that country is still very vivid in my mind. I’ve dreamt of going to the salt flats and visiting this natural wonder, but to be honest I really didn’t know much about this country prior to my trip (other than that US citizens need to get a 10 year visa in order to visit).

Bolivia might be the poorest country in South America, but this country is so rich in its culture and diversity. I am so glad we decided to stay longer to really see this country other than just the salt flats. On the 3 day Southwest circuit tour with Quechua Connection 4WD, I feel like I was traveling to so many different places at once. One day you would be biking on a vast piece of land covered in white crystals, and another day you would be walking over geysers up close and dipping inside a hot spring gazing over the starry night. Our walking tour of La Paz and El Alto was also a great way to travel with a local and get to learn more about how this city came to be. I don’t think I would ever be able to hop on a local mini bus with other cholitas and ride down the hills of El Alto on my own.

Huge thanks to our tour guide Abel and Ximena for showing us your home country and making us feel at home.

Train Graveyard, Biking through the Salt Flats, and Lunch (with ice cream!)

After lunch it was time for photo op (and some failed perspective shots).

Salt Hotel Museum Area.

Cacti Island Isla Incahuasi.

Sunset at the Salt Flats

Day 2 starts with... Quinoa beer...?

Driving through the Southern part of the country, to rock formation, train tracks and volcanos.

Lagoon time!

And when you spot a wifi sign in the middle of nowhere (really, I don't know if it actually works - it's also quiet expensive)

Did I mention there are geysers in Bolivia too?

The last day of the 3 day tour was spent in more beautiful landscape.

After traveling to Tibet and Bolivia I have to say I think I am all adjusted for the high altitude! Guess I am a step closer to hitting Machu Picchu!
